Dashing is a form of ground movement that is faster than walking. It is performed by double tapping or quickly pressing the movement button. The character enters a initial dash in which they can change directions with very little lag, and then goes into their regular running animation. While dashing, a character can dash attack, shield, or jump.
The initial dash is the first part of the dash where the character can change direction with only 1 frame of lag. During the run animation, this lag is normally much higher. Thus, the initial dash is useful for several forms of ground movement options, such as dash-dancing, fox-trotting, stutter-stepping, and pivoting.
